    Temperature Transmitter

    The transmitter measures the temperature for a PT1000 platinum film element. The transmitter does not include the PT1000 sensor. An external PT1000 according to EN 60751 has to be connected for the transmitter to operate.

    The microprocessor samples the temperature once per second. It calculates an averaging signal over a preset number of seconds and generates an output signal based on lower and upper signal range values. Standard range is

    -40…200°C (-40…392°F) and 10 seconds average. The signal range of the temperature measurement and the averaging samples may be customized.

    Minimum and Maximum Values:

    Using the programming tool, the user has the option to read out and reset minimum and maximum values. The minimum and maximum values may as well be used as output signals. The minimum and maximum values are saved into a non-volatile memory and are therefore available after a power interruption.

    Analog Output Configuration

    The analog output signal type may be configured with a jumper for 0-10 VDC or 0-20 mA control signals. The jumper is located next to the terminal connector of the analog output. See table below for jumper placement. The factory default-setting is set to 0-10 VDC.

    The signal range may be set with JP3. JP3 will only operate if the output range specified with OP01 and OP02 is left at the default position of 0…100%. With any other setting the position of JP3 has no influence and the range defined with the output parameters applies.

    4-wire vs. 2-wire sensor

    PT1000 measurement allows precise temperature measurement through a temperature dependent resistor. Any connection wire, especially if they have a certain length, will add (and thus falsify) the measured resistance. It is therefore suggested, in order to keep accuracy, to connect a 4-wire sensor to the transmitter when cables are longer than a very few meters. In case of a 4 wire sensor, JP4 & JP5 should be removed. When connected with only 2 wires, then these 2 jumpers must be set.

    Installation

    The SCA should be installed on a flat vertical surface protected from direct sunlight and rain.

    • The cable openings must face downwards.

    • To install the transmitter, secure the base plate with two screws on a flat weather protected surface.

    • Connect the wires according to the wiring diagram to the measuring circuit in the cover.

    • Seal the wire with the cable gland provided.

    • Assemble the cover with the base plate. Make sure the seal in the seal grove of the cover is not damaged and in place.

    • Tighten the four screws of the cover with equal moderate torque to complete the installation.

    Configuration parameters

    By the use of parameters the transmitter can be adapted to fit perfectly into any application. The parameters are set with the operation terminal OPA-S. The OPA-S may also be used as remote indicator.
