1 Clinic Description

Symptomatic superficial venous insufficiency is a common medical condition that affects 15% of adult men and 25% of adult women.

Untreated venous insufficiency has significant morbidity and potential mortality.

The sequelae include chronic pain, edema, ulceration and thrombophlebitis.

2 Laser Treatment Method

Endovenous laser is one of these endovenous techniques and also has excellent cosmetic result and no down time.

In endovenous laser surgery, the optical laser fiber with a bare tip is inserted through a needle puncture into the varicose vein.

The placement of the fiber is assisted by the use of a long vein sheath and duplex ultrasound.

The fiber is pulled back with radiating laser energy.

It allows delivery of laser energy directly and indirectly into the blood vessel lumen to produce endothelial and venous wall damage with subsequent fibrosis.

3 Wavelength Choice

Recently, various endovenous laser occlusions for varicose vein such as 810nm and 980 nm diode lasers have been reported to have excellent results and safety.

While the new 1470nm laser, together with radial fibers, has greater absorption in water targeting the intracellular water of the vein wall and the water content of blood, it is reported to minimize post-operative pain and bruising, as the result in quick recovery for patients.
