Unlike sodium percarbonate and sodium perphosphate, perborate is not just an addition compound of peroxide, but contains true peroxygen bonds, Sodium perborate tetrahydrate has good storage stability when blended with many ingredients of formulated products for use in temperate climates.

When used in laundry powders, sodium perborate tetrahydrate provides a stable, cost effective source of active oxygen.

Sodium perborate monohydrate is dehydrated from perborate tetrahydrate, it is widely used in hot climates, or in markets where the washing is carried out in cool water.

Sodium perborate monohydrate is particularly suitable for use at high ambient temperatures.

The high rate of dissolution, ideal for use in cold wash temperatures ensures a rapid release of hydrogen peroxide into solution, providing rapid generation of peracid from the bleach activators being used (Typically known as TAED: Tetra Acetyl Ethylene Diamine).

This ensures that the bleach works throughout the whole wash cycle.

Sodium perborate is also ideal for use in tablet formulations due to its high available oxygen content, and a low moisture content.

Both sodium perborate and sodium percarbonate are refered as Oxyen Bleach.
