How Humidity Affects PUR Hot Melt Adhesive Curing

PUR hot melt adhesive is widely used in furniture edge banding, profile wrapping, panel lamination, textile bonding, automotive assembly, and other industrial applications where durable adhesion and resistance to heat and moisture are required.

Unlike conventional thermoplastic hot melt adhesives, PUR hot melt adhesive does not rely only on cooling to develop its final bond.

After application, the molten adhesive cools and provides initial handling strength.

A second curing stage then takes place as the reactive polyurethane adhesive absorbs moisture from the surrounding air and bonded materials.

This moisture-triggered reaction gradually creates a stronger, more chemically resistant adhesive layer.

For this reason, environmental humidity can directly influence the curing behavior of PUR adhesive.
