W6Mo5Cr4V2 high speed steel is the Chinese standard designation of AISI M2, the most widely used HSS grade for cutting tools worldwide.

It offers an excellent balance of red hardness, wear resistance and toughness, making it ideal for drills, milling cutters, taps, reamers, saw blades and broaches.

Chemical Composition (GB W6Mo5Cr4V2 / AISI M2):

Carbon: 0.80-0.90%, Chromium: 3.80-4.40%, Molybdenum: 4.50-5.50%, Tungsten: 5.50-6.75%, Vanadium: 1.75-2.20%, Silicon: 0.20-0.45%, Manganese: 0.15-0.40% Key Properties:

1 - High red hardness: cutting edge keeps HRC 60+ even at working temperatures around 600C.

2 - Good wear resistance from vanadium carbides, extending tool service life.

3 - Balanced toughness reduces chipping compared with higher vanadium grades.

4 - Fine carbide distribution after EAF+LF+VD refining and proper forging.

Heat Treatment Guide:

- Annealing: 850-870C, slow cool, hardness max 255 HB

- Hardening: 1200-1230C, salt bath or vacuum quench

- Triple tempering: 540-560C, 2 hours each, final hardness HRC 62-65

- Deep cryogenic treatment optional for dimensional stability Delivery Size Range:

Round bar 8-300mm, flat bar, sheet and forged blocks.

Annealed or pre-hardened condition.

Ultrasonic inspection per SEP 1921, full traceability with mill test certificate EN 10204 3.1 - Typical Applications: twist drills, end mills, taps and dies, hacksaw and band saw blades, cold forming tools, woodworking knives.
