Why SKH51 Handles High Temperature Work:

SKH51 (AISI M2 / DIN 1.3343 / GB W6Mo5Cr4V2) is a tungsten-molybdenum high speed tool steel.

After proper quenching and triple tempering at about 540-560°C, it reaches HRC 62-64 and retains a tempered martensite structure with fine, hard M6C carbides.

This gives SKH51 excellent red hardness – the cutting edge stays hard and wear resistant even when the working temperature rises to around 550-600°C, and it softens only slightly with repeated heating cycles.

That is why SKH51 is the first choice for hot working punches, extrusion die inserts, die casting gate parts, high speed broaches and continuous cutting tools where ordinary alloy tool steel would anneal and lose its edge.
