Hot Work Steel 1.2344 Heat Treatment Guide For Long Die Life - China

Getting long die life from 1.2344 hot work steel is mostly about correct heat treatment.

Here is the practice our mould steel customers use.

Heat treatment schedule for 1.2344 hot work steel:

- Soft annealing: 840-860 C, slow cool to max 229 HB

- Stress relieving after rough machining: 600-650 C, hold 2 hours

- Austenitising: 1020-1050 C, soak 30 min per 25mm

- Quench: oil or high pressure gas; vacuum furnace gives the cleanest result

- Tempering: at least twice; 550-620 C yields 44-50 HRC Tempering temperature vs hardness (guide):

- 200 C - about 54 HRC

- 400 C - about 52 HRC

- 500 C - about 50 HRC

- 550 C - about 47 HRC

- 600 C - about 44 HRC
