KS SCr430 alloy, a medium-carbon chromium structural steel, is widely used in automotive transmissions, machinery manufacturing, and other fields due to its excellent hardenability and mechanical properties.

However, in highly abrasive and corrosive operating environments, relying solely on substrate properties cannot meet long-term service requirements.

Hard chromium plating technology, which forms a high-hardness, highly wear-resistant chromium coating on the SCr430 surface, can significantly improve the service life and performance stability of components.

KS SCr430 Alloy Substrate Characteristics and Pre-plating Preparation

KS SCr430 alloy (corresponding to China's GB standard 40Cr) is a typical medium-carbon chromium structural steel with a chromium content of 0.85-1.25%.

This compositional characteristic gives it superior hardenability and mechanical properties compared to ordinary carbon steel.

This material achieves a tensile strength exceeding 885 MPa and a yield strength ≥685 MPa in the quenched and tempered state, making it particularly suitable for manufacturing components subject to high stress and fatigue loads, such as drive shafts, hydraulic piston rods, and machine tool spindles.

Precision Machining and Surface Finishing: Before plating, the workpiece must be machined to near-final dimensions, allowing for an appropriate coating thickness (typically 0.02-0.1 mm).

Surface roughness should be controlled below Ra 1.6 - Excessively rough surfaces will result in uneven coating, while excessively smooth surfaces may impair adhesion.

Chemical Degreasing and Electrolytic Cleaning: Use a mild alkaline detergent (pH 9-11) at 50-70°C for 10-20 minutes to remove grease and contaminants from the KS SCr430 alloy surface.

For complex parts, cathodic electrolytic cleaning (3-5 A/dm², 30-60 seconds) can be used to further clean the surface.

It is particularly important to note that a dense oxide layer may form on the surface of SCr430 alloy after heat treatment, which is difficult to completely remove by conventional pickling.

In this case, anodic electrolytic etching (10-15A/dm², 10-30 seconds) or sandblasting (using 100-200 mesh alumina sand) can be used to achieve the best surface condition.
