" Ultrasonic Testing Process

1 - Surface Pretreatment

* Clean the surface to remove scale, oil, rust, etc.

* Forgings or roughened parts should be polished to Ra ≤ 12.5 μm or less.

2 - Select Probe and Instrument Parameters

* Common Frequency: 2.5 MHz to 5 MHz

* Probe Type: Straight or Angle (depending on the flaw orientation)

* Calibration Block: Use a IIW block or a corresponding standard block 3 - Couplant Use

* Use a suitable couplant, such as engine oil, glycerin, or specialized coupling paste, to ensure smooth transmission of the sound waves into the material.

Application Examples

In practical applications, 20Cr4 alloy steel forgings (such as automotive gear blanks, marine crankshafts, and wind turbine shafts) are typically required to meet GB/T 6402 Level II or higher flaw detection requirements to ensure the absence of internal defects under high load conditions.
