Machinability

20MnCr5 material properties in annealed state has good cutting performance (low hardness, moderate plasticity), but chromium elements can easily cause tool wear.

It is recommended to use **carbide tools** or coated tools (such as TiN coating), and the cutting speed should be controlled at 50~80 m/min, and the feed rate should be 0.1~0.3 mm/r.

Welding performance

Poor weldability: Due to the carbon and alloy elements, hardened structure and cold cracks are easily generated during welding.

Preheating before welding (150~200℃) and slow cooling after welding, or low-hydrogen type welding rods (such as J507) are required.

It is generally not recommended for welding structures.

If welding is required, it is recommended to use **welding before carburizing** to avoid high temperature affecting the carburized layer.

Forging performance

Initial forging temperature: 1100~1150℃, final forging temperature ≥850℃, slow cooling (such as sand cooling or furnace cooling) is required after forging to avoid the generation of network carbides and affect the subsequent heat treatment performance.

20MnCr5 material properties are widely used in medium and low load carburized parts due to their good comprehensive properties, but their performance needs to be achieved through precise heat treatment processes.

In actual use, the process parameters need to be optimized in combination with the working conditions of the parts.
