SKH51 High Speed Steel Buying Guide – How To Check Quality Before You Order For purchasing engineers, comparing SKH51 high speed steel offers is not only about price.

This guide shows five practical checkpoints our customers use to verify quality before placing an order, and how Songshun meets each of them.

1 - Ask for the heat number and mill certificate.

Genuine SKH51 (JIS G4403) comes with a certificate showing full chemistry: C 0.80–0.90%, Cr 3.80–4.40%, Mo 4.50–5.50%, W 5.50–6.75%, V 1.75–2.20%.

Songshun supplies a certificate with every shipment, heat-number traceable.

2 - Check the annealed hardness.

Properly annealed material should be HB 255 or lower.

Over-hard bars mean poor annealing and unstable heat treatment later.

We test each batch and report the values.

3 - Inspect the carbide distribution.

Forged and properly processed SKH51 shows fine, evenly distributed carbides.

Coarse banding causes cracking during quenching.

Our EAF + forging + annealing line is optimized for uniform structure.

4 - Confirm ultrasonic testing for large sections.

Bars above 50mm diameter should be UT checked for internal defects.

Real SKH51 equals AISI M2, DIN 1.3343 and GB W6Mo5Cr4V2 - If a supplier cannot explain the equivalence clearly, be careful with the offer.
