AISI 5130 steel is a medium-carbon chromium alloy steel.

While its material properties make it a suitable choice for hydraulic cylinder piston rods, it is not ideal for all operating conditions.

- High Strength and Good Toughness: AISI 5130 steel has a high tensile strength, typically ≥885 MPa, which allows it to withstand the reciprocating tensile and compressive stresses of the piston rod during operation and is less susceptible to fracture.

Its high toughness also allows it to maintain stability under certain impact loads, preventing damage to the piston rod caused by impact.

- Excellent Wear Resistance: With appropriate heat treatment, AISI 5130 steel can achieve high surface hardness and wear resistance, resulting in excellent wear resistance.

This is crucial for operating piston rods subject to sliding friction with components such as piston rings and packing, reducing wear and extending their service life.

If the hydraulic cylinder is working in an environment with high loads, shock loads, and high wear resistance requirements, and the working environment is not particularly corrosive, AISI 5130 steel is one of the ideal choices for the hydraulic cylinder piston rod.

However, if it is working in a highly corrosive environment, stainless steel materials such as 304 and 316 are usually preferred.
