DIN 1.2436 is a cold-work tool steel governed by the German DIN standard.

Domestically, it is commonly referred to as Cr12W; its Japanese equivalent is SKD2, while its official German designation is X210CrW12 - This steel is characterized by its high carbon and high chromium content, offering exceptional hardness and outstanding wear resistance, though its toughness is relatively lower.

Its as-supplied hardness typically ranges from 230 to 255 HBW, and following heat treatment, it can achieve a maximum hardness of approximately 64 HRC.

It is ideally suited for manufacturing cold-stamping dies that require high wear resistance and are subjected to moderate loads—such as shears for cutting sheet metal, wire-drawing dies, and similar applications.
