Controlling Deformation During Heat Treatment Of En Nf Z200c12 Steel - China

EN NF Z200C12 steel (French NF standard, equivalent to 1.2080/D2 type high carbon high chromium steel) belongs to ledeburitic cold work die steel.

It has high carbide content, poor thermal conductivity, and high hardenability.

Heat treatment deformation is mainly due to "structural stress + thermal stress + carbide segregation, " and overall it is a micro-deformation steel (typically <0.03%).

However, complex parts/parts with large thickness variations are still prone to warping, ellipticization, and uneven expansion and contraction.

Heat Treatment Deformation Control Techniques: 1 - Pre-heat treatment: Reduce stress and homogenize the microstructure from the source.

2 - Quenching heating: Temperature control, slow heating, and uniform heating.

3 - Quenching cooling: The most critical step! Slow cooling, graded cooling, and gas quenching are preferred.

4 - Tempering: Timely, sufficient, and multiple tempering processes.

5 - Fixtures and furnace loading: Forced uniformity and prevention of deformation due to self-weight.

6 - Machining allowance and process route (allowing for deformation).
