1.7218 steel is a quenched and tempered steel that balances strength, toughness and weldability.

It is suitable for manufacturing high-temperature, high-load and welded structural parts.

Heat treatment (especially tempering temperature) is the key to performance regulation.

Attention should be paid to welding preheating and cutting parameters during processing.

1.7218 steel processing precautions

Welding:

Preheat before welding (≥150℃), temper after welding (600-650℃) to avoid cold cracks.

Recommended welding wire: ER80S-G (low hydrogen type).

Cutting:

Annealed state (≤212HBW) has the best machinability, and hard alloy tools are required for quenched and tempered state.

Nitriding:

Not a major treatment process (due to low Al content).

If surface hardening is required, carburizing or quenching is preferred.

Forging:

Temperature 1200-950℃, slow cooling after forging (to prevent white spot defects).
