En Bs Bd3 Mold Steel Heat Treatment Process - China

Proper heat treatment is key to achieving optimal wear resistance in EN BS BD3 mold steel.

The following is a typical heat treatment process: 1 - Annealing: Heat the EN BS BD3 mold steel uniformly to 850-870°C, hold for a sufficient amount of time, then slowly furnace cool to 650°C at a rate not exceeding 25°C/hour, followed by air cooling.

The maximum hardness after annealing should be 248 HBW.

2 - Quenching: EN BS BD3 mold steel is very sensitive to overheating during quenching and must be avoided.

First, slowly preheat to 800-850°C, then rapidly increase the temperature to 950-970°C and hold for a sufficient amount of time until the internal and external temperatures are uniform.

Finally, oil quench.

3 - Tempering: Tempering should be performed immediately after quenching.

Heat the steel uniformly to the required temperature and hold for 25 minutes per centimeter of thickness.

EN BS BD3 mold steel can be double tempered, with cooling to room temperature between the two tempering processes.

For maximum wear resistance, tempering between 149-177°C (300-350°F) is recommended, at which point the hardness can reach 62-63 HRC.
