Corrosion Resistance Characteristics

As a martensitic stainless steel, GOST ЩX15 round bars have lower corrosion resistance than austenitic stainless steels (such as 304 and 316), but superior to ordinary carbon steel and low-alloy structural steels.

Specifically, the following characteristics apply:

Applicable Environments: Resistant to atmospheric corrosion (e.g., indoors and dry outdoors), resistant to fresh water (tap water, river water), resistant to weak alkaline solutions, and resistant to non-oxidizing weak acids.

Limitations:

Not resistant to strong oxidizing media (e.g., concentrated nitric acid and chromic acid).

The surface condition after heat treatment significantly affects corrosion resistance: polished surface > pickled surface > sandblasted surface.

Avoid scratching the surface (which damages the chromium oxide film).

Improvement Methods: Corrosion resistance can be further enhanced by passivating the surface of GOST ЩX15 round bars (e.g., nitric acid passivation), chrome plating, or painting.
