Hardness measurement methods

Brinell hardness (HB): Suitable for measuring materials with lower hardness, such as EN 42CrMo4 steel in the annealed state.

Rockwell hardness (HRC): Suitable for measuring materials with higher hardness, such as EN 42CrMo4 steel in the quenched or tempered state.

Vickers hardness (HV): Suitable for measuring surface hardness, especially for parts after surface hardening.

Hardness selection in practical applications

In practical applications, the hardness selection of EN 42CrMo4 steel needs to be determined according to the specific use requirements of the parts:

High strength and toughness requirements: The hardness after tempering (25 - 36 HRC) is a common choice, suitable for manufacturing parts such as crankshafts, connecting rods, gears, etc.

High wear resistance requirements: The high surface hardness after surface hardening (60 - 65 HRC) is suitable for manufacturing hydraulic cylinder piston rods, mold components, etc.

Easy processing requirements: The low hardness in the annealed state (179 - 229 HB) is suitable for parts that require complex machining.
