Microstructure and Properties of ASTM A2 Steel Plate After Quenching and Tempering

Microstructure: Uniform tempered sorbite (ferrite matrix + fine spherical cementite), with no obvious martensite residue and extremely low internal stress.

Performance Advantages: Compared with conventional quenching + low-temperature tempering (hardness 60~62HRC, impact toughness ≤3J/cm²), after quenching and tempering: Toughness is increased by 3~8 times, significantly enhancing impact and bending resistance; Plasticity is improved, with the fracture mode changing from "brittle fracture" to "ductile fracture"; Fatigue strength is increased by approximately 20%, suitable for conditions subject to repeated loading.

Performance Limitations: The hardness of ASTM A2 steel plate decreases significantly after quenching and tempering, and its wear resistance is far lower than that of the conventional heat-treated state.

Therefore, it is not suitable for high-wear, high-hardness applications (such as precision cutting tools and cold stamping die edges).
