Spot Supply Export 5120h Material Strict Forging Process - China

5120H material is a hardenable alloy structural steel (corresponding to the American AISI/SAE standard), containing chromium (Cr≈1%), with good hardenability and carburizing ability, and is often used to manufacture parts that require surface hardening, such as gears and shafts.

Its chemical composition is close to German 20MnCr5, but the manganese content is slightly lower (Mn≈0.7~1.0%), and the carbon content is 0.17~0.23%, which is a low-alloy carburizing steel.

Preparation before forging

1 - Selection of heating equipment

Requirements for billet heating:

- The surface is clean and free of oxide scale and oil stains, and sandblasting or shot blasting can be performed in advance.

- Dimension tolerance control: diameter or side length deviation ≤±1% to avoid uneven deformation during forging.

2 - Determination of temperature range

Initial forging temperature: 1100~1150℃ (at this temperature, the austenite grains are fine and the plasticity is optimal).

Final forging temperature: ≥850℃ (forging cracks are likely to occur below this temperature, and grains are difficult to recrystallize and refine).
