Standard Cns Sncm220 Steel Heat Treatment Process - China

CNS SNCM220 steel contains various alloying elements such as carbon, chromium, nickel, and molybdenum in its chemical composition.

After carburizing heat treatment, this material forms a high-hardness, wear-resistant layer on the surface (tensile strength ≥1176MPa), while maintaining good toughness in the core (impact toughness ≥78J/cm² [1-2]), making it suitable for manufacturing high-impact load parts such as automotive bearings and drive shafts.

The standard heat treatment process consists of three stages:

1 - Carburizing: Holding at 920-950℃ in a carburizing furnace for 6-12 hours, increasing the surface carbon concentration to approximately 0.8%, and forming a martensitic structure in the carburized layer.

2 - Quenching: A double oil quenching process (880±20℃/790±20℃):

First stage: Holding at 880±20℃ followed by oil quenching.

Second stage: Second quenching at 790±20℃ to refine the grains.

3 - Low-temperature tempering: Air tempering at 150-200℃ for 1-2 hours to eliminate quenching stress and stabilize the microstructure, ultimately obtaining a tempered martensitic matrix.
