These effects have been demonstrated through determination of

the polariton dispersion properties of the lowest order slab

waveguide mode of the film and comparison of the results to

finite difference time domain simulations that take into

account polariton excitation and propagation and that properly

treat the polariton wave vector components in bulk and thin

film LN at all wave vector ranges.

The results provide the

basis for further extensions of the tools of THz polaritonics

to ferroelectric thin films, including the fabrication of

integrated THz functional elements through femtosecond laser

micromachining.
