Bs 708m40 Alloy Material Surface Treatment Technology - China

BS 708M40 alloy material has 1030MPa tensile strength and 55J impact toughness.

It achieves wear resistance, corrosion resistance and high temperature stability through precise chromium-molybdenum ratio.

It is an ideal material for key fields such as heavy gears and aviation components.

The hardness can reach 40HRC after quenching and tempering.

BS 708M40 alloy material surface treatment process selection and application scenarios

1 - Carburizing and quenching (high wear-resistant surface)

Process: 920~940℃ carburizing (carbon potential 1.0~1.2% C) + 820~840℃ quenching + 180~200℃ low-temperature tempering

Effect: surface hardness 60~64HRC, carburizing layer depth 0.8~1.2mm

Application: heavy-duty gears, piston pins, clutch plates 2 - Hard chrome plating (wear-resistant + corrosion-resistant)

Process: chrome plating liquid (CrO₃ 250g/L + H₂SO₄ 2.5g/L), temperature 55~60℃, current density 30~50A/dm²

Effect: coating thickness 0.02~0.05mm, hardness 900~1100HV

Application: hydraulic rods, piston rods, injection molds 3 - Dacromet coating (high salt spray resistance)

Process: zinc aluminum sheet + chromate solution immersion → 300℃ baking and curing

Effect: coating thickness 8~12μm, salt spray resistance for more than 1000h

Application: outdoor steel structure bolts, marine engineering parts 4 - TD coating treatment (super wear-resistant)

Process: adding VC powder to borax molten salt, 950℃×4h

Effect: forming a 5~15μm vanadium carbide (VC) coating with a hardness of more than 3000HV
