A20202 Steel Suitable For Automobile Parts Manufacturing - China

A20202 steel is a high manganese austenitic stainless steel (corresponding to UNS S20200) of the US SAE/AISI standard.

It is not a traditional structural steel, but is known for its excellent wear resistance and work hardening.

Key performance:

- Extremely high work hardening rate: hardness can be increased by 2~3 times after cold deformation (initial hardness ~200 HB, up to 500 HB after cold rolling).

- Corrosion resistance: better than 304 stainless steel (due to high manganese content, it is more sensitive to chloride ion environment).

- Non-magnetic: austenitic structure, suitable for electromagnetic sensitive parts.

Advantages in automotive parts manufacturing

- Cold formability:

- Suitable for stamping and deep drawing (initial low hardness), but the deformation amount needs to be controlled (single deformation > 20% may require intermediate annealing).

- Weldability:

- TIG/MIG welding can be used, but carbides are easily precipitated in the heat-affected zone (ultra-low carbon welding wire ER308L is recommended).

- Surface treatment:

- Electrolytic polishing or PVD coating (to improve wear resistance).
