American Special Grade G41420 Steel Forging And Welding Processability - China

G41420 steel, also known as AISI 4140, is an alloy structural steel widely used under the American Standard (ASTM).

It has excellent strength, wear resistance and impact resistance, and is often used to manufacture parts that require high strength and high wear resistance, such as bearings, gears and connecting rods.

This steel can obtain higher mechanical properties and durability after proper heat treatment.

Forging and welding processability - strong adaptability to hot working

Forging process:

The initial forging temperature is 1150~1200℃, and the final forging temperature is ≥850℃.

After forging, G41420 steel needs to be slowly cooled (sand cooling or furnace cooling) to prevent cracking.

It is suitable for manufacturing complex shape forgings (such as crankshafts and connecting rods).

Welding performance:

The carbon equivalent (CE≈0.6%) is relatively high.

G41420 steel needs to be preheated (150~200℃) before welding and heat treated (600~650℃ tempering) after welding to eliminate stress.

TIG welding or electrode arc welding (J507 electrode) can be used.

The strength of the welded joint can reach more than 85% of the parent material.
