Process Precautions

Preventing Oxidative Decarburization: During heating, CNS SCr440 material can be protected with coatings, boxed (filled with cast iron chips), or flushed with nitrogen to prevent surface hardness loss.

Controlling Deformation and Cracking:

Maintain uniform heating and cooling rates (avoiding large local temperature differences);

Use a stepped heating method for complex-shaped parts;

Promptly temper after quenching (generally ≤ 4 hours) to prevent stress concentration and cracking.

Furnace Loading Method: Hang round bars vertically or lay them flat (avoid bending), with spacing ≥ 1/2 the diameter to ensure uniform heating.

Quality Inspection: Check hardness after quenching (≥ 55 HRC for acceptance).

After tempering, check hardness and microstructure (tempered bainite/tempered martensite) according to the drawing requirements.

Application Example

φ30mm CNS SCr440 material (shaft components):

Quenching: 840°C for 60 minutes, water quenching (cooling to below 200°C);

Tempering: 500°C for 2 hours, air cooling;

Performance: Hardness 25-28 HRC, σb ≈ 900 MPa, suitable for drive shafts subjected to moderate impact.

By properly controlling heating temperature, holding time, and cooling method, CNS SCr440 material can consistently achieve the required mechanical properties, meeting the requirements of various operating conditions.
