Main Characteristics 1 - Extremely high wear resistance: Benefiting from the large amount of hard, fine carbides (such as Cr7C3) formed by high carbon (~1.5%) and high chromium (~12%), this is the core advantage of CNS SKD12 steel, making it suitable for stamping, stretching, and forming dies for easily worn materials.

2 - Good hardenability: The high chromium content allows it to achieve high and uniform hardness even with large cross-sectional dimensions when quenched in air or oil.

The effective hardening depth is typically very deep.

3 - Appropriate toughness: Although primarily focused on wear resistance, compared to SKD1/Cr12 with more carbides, the addition of molybdenum (Mo) and vanadium (V) refines the grain, providing relatively better toughness and superior resistance to chipping.

4 - Dimensional stability: Quenching deformation is relatively small, and after proper heat treatment, dimensional changes are controllable, which is crucial for precision dies.
