Cr12 steel is a high-carbon, high-chromium cold work die steel.

Its high wear resistance primarily stems from the combination of a large number of hard carbides within the material and a specific heat treatment process.

Sources of High Wear Resistance The high wear resistance of Cr12 steel originates from its unique microstructure design: Hard Carbides: The steel contains 11.00%-13.00% chromium, most of which combines with carbon to form special carbides (Cr, Fe)₇C₃ with a hardness reaching **HV 2300**.

These hard particles are evenly distributed throughout the steel, forming a wear-resistant "skeleton".

Optimized Heat Treatment: Through precise heat treatment (such as quenching at 960-980℃ + low-temperature tempering), the steel matrix transforms into high-hardness martensite, firmly "binding" the carbide particles.

Combined with surface strengthening technology, this further enhances wear resistance.

Surface strengthening technology: Cr12 steel can be treated with laser surface melting, gas nitriding or TD treatment to form a harder strengthening layer or hardened material on the surface, which significantly improves wear resistance.
