Welding Risk Assessment

Welding at 1.2379 should generally be avoided.

The high carbon content (approximately 1.5%) and alloying elements of NF X153CrMoV12 material make it highly susceptible to cracking during welding thermal cycles.

If welding repair is necessary, strict special procedures must be followed.

Welding Operation Guidelines

Soft Annealed Condition Welding:

Preheat: 300-500°C

Welding Temperature: Weld at 300-500°C

Stress relief immediately after welding General Welding Recommendations:

Use low-hydrogen electrodes or matching alloys

Preheat to 250-400°C (depending on the welding method)

Maintain interpass temperature consistent with preheating temperature

Slowly cool and temper after welding

For molds requiring polishing or photolithography, specialized alloys with appropriate composition must be used Post-Weld Heat Treatment: After welding, NF X153CrMoV12 material must undergo appropriate heat treatment to relieve welding stress and restore weld toughness.

This typically requires full annealing followed by a quenching and tempering cycle.
