Source Factory Nf X153crmov12 Steel Free Forging Process - China

This NF X153CrMoV12 steel is equivalent to DIN 1.2379 / AISI D2, and belongs to the typical ledeburitic steel (high carbon, high chromium tool steel).

It has a high carbide content, is sensitive to segregation, and has a narrow forging window; therefore, free forging requires strict control of temperature and deformation regime.

I.

Pre-Forging Preparation (Key Control Points) 1 - Billet Condition * Electroslag Remelting (ESR) or forged homogenized materials are recommended.

* Avoid severe carbide segregation (directly affecting die life).

2 - Heating Equipment * Recommended: Bogie hearth furnace / Box furnace (uniform temperature control) * Must have **slow heating capability** II.

Heating Regime (Core Focus) Due to the poor thermal conductivity of X153CrMoV12, segmented heating is necessary: ✔ Segmented Heating Process * First Stage: Room temperature → 650–700°C * Purpose: To eliminate thermal stress and prevent cracking.

* Second Stage: **700°C → 850–900°C** * Soaking treatment (promotes uniform microstructure) * Third Stage: **Rise to forging temperature 1000–1050°C** ???? **Holding Time: ** * By cross-section: Approximately **1 min/mm (minimum 30–60)** (min)** III.

Forging Temperature Range (Very Critical) * **Initial Forging Temperature: ** 1000–1050°C * **Final Forging Temperature: ** ≥ 900°C (Strictly prohibited below 850°C) ⚠️ Note: * Low temperature → Prone to cracking * Excessively high temperature → Coarse grains + carbide network formation
