The essence of heat treatment process

The performance of SCM440H steel depends on precise heat treatment control.

The preparatory heat treatment adopts normalizing process, heating to 850-880℃ and then air cooling to obtain uniform fine pearlite structure.

The key quenching process requires oil cooling at 830-860℃, combined with tempering at 500-550℃ to form the best strength and toughness combination.

Particularly worth mentioning is the bainite isothermal quenching process.

Hitachi Construction Machinery's practice shows that SCM440H steel isothermally treated in a salt bath at 280-320℃ can obtain more than 30% bainite structure, while the impact toughness is increased by 40% and the wear resistance is increased by 25%.

This process is particularly suitable for manufacturing wear-resistant parts of mining machinery and performs well under harsh working conditions.
