High Quality Ks Stb2 Material Smelting Process - China

KS STB2 material is a high-carbon chromium bearing steel.

Its smelting process typically includes the following steps:

1 - Hot Metal Pretreatment: The KR pretreatment process is used to desulfurize the blast furnace hot metal, reducing the content of harmful elements such as sulfur, thereby providing high-quality raw materials for subsequent smelting.

2 - Melting: The molten steel can be melted in an oxygen converter or electric furnace.

During the melting process, it is important to create a foamy slag to achieve uniform decarburization, with the final carbon content ≤0.30%.

3 - Refining: The molten steel is fed into the LF refining furnace for refining.

The temperature and composition are fine-tuned to minimize phosphorus (P) and sulfur (S) content.

RH or VD vacuum treatment is then performed, maintaining the vacuum for ≥15 minutes.

After the treatment, argon soft purging is maintained for ≥12 minutes to further remove gases and impurities from the molten steel and improve its purity.

4 - Casting: The refined molten steel is cast into continuous casting rectangular billets.

During the casting process, electromagnetic stirring technology can be used to control the superheat of the tundish to fluctuate between 15 and 25°C, maintain the casting speed at 0.5 to 0.6 m/min, and stack and slowly cool the continuous casting billets after they come off the line to ensure the quality of the billets.
