DIN 42CrMo4 steel pipe is an industrial material.

42CrMo4 is used to manufacture forgings that require higher strength and larger tempered sections than 35CrMo steel, such as large gears for locomotive traction, supercharger transmission gears, rear axles, connecting rods and spring clips with extremely high loads.

It can also be used for oil deep well drill pipe joints and salvage tools below 2000m.

Core mechanical properties

DIN 42CrMo4 steel pipe has typical properties after quenching and tempering at 850℃ oil quenching + 580℃ tempering:

Tensile strength 1100~1300MPa, yield strength above 950MPa

Elongation ≥12%, cross-sectional shrinkage ≥45%

Impact energy (-20℃) ≥63J Fatigue limit (10⁷ cycles) reaches 550MPa

DIN 42CrMo4 steel pipe can obtain a uniform bainite-martensite mixed structure by controlling the final forging temperature in the range of 850~950℃ and normalizing treatment, and the grain size is stable at ASTM 7-8 - Parts with special requirements can adopt isothermal quenching process to obtain lower bainite structure, which increases the impact toughness by 30%.
