Iso X100crmov5 Steel Martensitic Quenching Process - China

Quenching is the foundation of tempering ISO X100CrMoV5 steel, ensuring thorough hardening of the workpiece's core while minimizing the risk of deformation and cracking.

1 - Heating temperature: 780~800℃ (30~50℃ above the critical point Ac₃ to avoid overheating and coarse grains).

Temperature must not exceed 820℃, otherwise the grains will become coarse and the toughness will decrease after tempering.

2 - Heating medium: Box-type resistance furnace, salt bath furnace (salt bath furnaces provide more uniform heating and are suitable for precision workpieces).

Workpieces must be dried before entering the furnace to remove surface oil and prevent oxide scale and decarburization during heating of ISO X100CrMoV5 steel.

3 - Holding time: 1~2 hours (effective thickness ≤50mm, hold for 1 hour every 20mm).

Insufficient holding time will lead to poor hardenability and pearlite formation in the core; excessive holding time easily causes decarburization and oxidation.

4 - Cooling method: Oil cooling (core selection): After oil cooling to 150~200℃, immediately transfer to a tempering furnace (avoid room temperature exposure and cracking).

Water cooling is prohibited: Water cooling of high-carbon steel easily causes quenching cracks and is only suitable for extremely thin workpieces with a thickness ≤5mm.
