Cutting Process Summary A typical SKD12 mold steel manufacturing process is as follows:

* **Blanking: ** Using a band saw or flame/plasma cutting (note the cutting allowance; the heat-affected zone needs to be removed in subsequent processing).

* **Forging/Annealing: ** Improving the internal structure of the SKD12 mold steel to achieve uniform hardness.

* **Rough Machining: ** In the annealed state, removing most of the excess material using turning, milling, planing, etc., leaving a finishing allowance (typically 0.5-1.0 mm per side).

* **Heat Treatment: ** Quenching and tempering are performed to achieve the required final hardness for the SKD12 mold steel (e.g., HRC 58-60).

* **Finishing/Shaping: **


* **Flat/Outer Diameter: ** Grinding.

* **Complex Cavities/Irregular Holes: ** Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM).

* **Through-Contour Machining: ** Wire EDM.
